Écologie : (répartition d'après la flore) Lieux secs et arides du Midi ; Alpes-Maritimes, Var, Bouches-du-Rhône, Gard, Hérault, Aveyron, Pyrénées-Orientales. Plante foragère.
Répartition hors de France : Europe méridionale.

[= Vicia sativa subsp. segatalis] A rather stout, sparsely hairy, trailing and climbing or suberect annual with simple flowering stems 23-50 cm high, many varieties of which are cultivated.

Flowers: 25-30 mm long, usually in pairs in the axils of the upper leaves, sub-sessile; calyx cylindrical, tube longer than teeth; petals purple and red, sides of standard reflexed; style hairy ail over.
